the feminine urge is volunteer led, steered by curator lucy brooke and project manager rachel anderson.
lucy brooke
lucy founded the collective in 2024, with a vision of bringing together female and non-binary artists in the north of england.
she’s in charge of making sure our exhibitions showcase the very best of our work. she also loves to sign us up to the most ambitious projects and gets us to figure it all out as we go.
lucy is currently a phd researcher in arts education, and has her own interdisciplinary practice.

rachel anderson
rachel is the manager of the collective and the queen of textiles. she’s the one that will squeeze anything and everything into her cool girl car when it comes to installing a show. plus she’s the one that keeps the spreadsheets, and drinks all the diet cokes.
rachel is also a practicing textile artist and works freelance on community projects and workshops.

paige makes it all come together - she’s the level head at install time and she’s our social media star. our resident maximalist and unintentional comedian.
paige is founder of fashion brand ‘she will grow out of it’ and works freelance across arts organisations.

theo is the one that keeps us pretty. they’ve shot the visuals behind every exhibition, announcement, and this website.
theo works in film and has their own practice centered around filmmaking and poetry, recently exploring the intersections between both mediums.
